HTC has signed a MOU with Taiwan's Far EasTone Telecommunications (FET) to jointly develop related 5G and VR hardware devices, applications and services.
HTC is currently also cooperating with Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) in Taiwan to develop and promote VR services via CHT's 5G networks, enabling CHT's VR services based on HTC's Viveport platform.
Optimizing HTC's VR expertise, FET will strive to develop 5G VR video content products and will also enhance its video streaming services with HTC's Viveport platform, FET said.
HTC is likely benefiting from its cooperation with telecom operators such as CHT and FET by selling more of its VR headsets through bundled sales offered by telecom firms, according to industry sources.
HTC's revenues increased 52% sequentially to NT$432 million (US$14.75 million) in August, bolstered by increased shipments of VR headsets and the newly released HTC U20 5G smartphones.
