FEMH Earns "Nursing-Friendly Workplace" Certification: Transforming Clinical Care Through AI and Digital Innovation

Far Eastern Memorial Hospital (FEMH) has been awarded the prestigious "Nursing-Friendly Workplace Excellence Certification," a testament to its successful dual-track strategy of institutional optimization and technological empowerment. In a significant leap toward digital transformation, FEMH has implemented AI-powered voice medical records and Generative AI (GenAI) Shift tasks handover systems. These innovations have successfully compressed the time required for a single patient record from 30 minutes to just 3 minutes, dramatically reducing the administrative burden on nursing staff. By leveraging technology to minimize repetitive tasks, FEMH enables nurses to return to the core of clinical care, enhancing both professional value and workplace satisfaction. (Photo Credit: FEMH)

Investing in the Future of Healthcare

"Investing in nursing is investing in the future of healthcare," stated Dr. Kuan-Ming Chiu, President of FEMH. He emphasized that the hospital’s participation in this certification program underscores its commitment to "Listening to Nursing Voices and Investing in a New Nursing Ecosystem." Through the "Workplace-Friendly Ward Run" initiative, management translated frontline clinical needs into concrete actions. Beyond upgrading environmental facilities, FEMH demonstrated its commitment through a competitive compensation strategy, combining structural salary adjustments with retention bonuses to build a comprehensive welfare system.

This precision-based reform—addressing both psychological support and economic security—resulted in a significant rise in workplace satisfaction scores, soaring from 7.34 to 9.62, a remarkable 31.06% increase. This data proves that "Empathetic Management" is the cornerstone of a resilient nursing workforce.

Efficiency Driven by Data: Redefining Work-Life Balance

At FEMH, "getting off work on time" is no longer an elusive goal but a data-supported reality. The hospital has aggressively streamlined administrative processes; by utilizing paperless systems, administrative steps were reduced from 13 to 8, with total processing time plummeting from 318 minutes to just 26 minutes—a more than 12-fold increase in efficiency.

Furthermore, the AI system, boasting a 95% recognition rate, now handles the majority of clerical documentation. This shift has led to a 38% decrease in overtime hours. Combined with the deployment of smart logistics robots to handle mundane errands, FEMH is utilizing technology to safeguard the work-life balance of its staff, maintaining a high satisfaction rate of 89% and building a highly resilient workplace.

The "FEMH Model" for Sustainable Development

President Kuan-Ming Chiu emphasized that the core philosophy of FEMH is to create a stage where professional dignity and quality of life coexist. The "FEMH Model"—a successful fusion of competitive compensation, technological empowerment, and human-centric care—aims to set a new industry standard. By sharing its practical expertise, FEMH seeks to lead the Taiwanese healthcare system toward a new era of human-centered, sustainable talent development, ultimately achieving a triple-win outcome for doctors, nurses, and patients alike.
