FENC x Beitou Refuse Incineration Plant Mark 10th Anniversary: New Educational Displays Unveil the "Rebirth of PET Bottles"

The collaboration between Far Eastern New Century (FENC) and the Taipei City Department of Environmental Protection’s Beitou Refuse Incineration Plant to promote the concept of resource circulation and recycling has entered its tenth year. Since April 2015, focusing on the circular economy of PET bottle recycling, FENC has designed and produced educational displays for the Egret Academy (the plant's Environmental Education Center). Over this period, the exhibits have undergone two updates. The design process involved extensive discussions with the Beitou Refuse Incineration Plant to understand the needs of guides and visitor groups, allowing for customized adjustments to the content and format. These displays are provided free of charge for use in their environmental education courses. As we welcome the 10th anniversary in 2025, newly designed educational displays are bringing a fresh look to the Egret Academy!

The brand-new educational displays show the process of PET bottle recycling and remanufacturing. They illustrate the evolution of PET bottles from multi-material, colored bodies to material-simplified, colorless, and transparent bodies. This evolution helps improve recycling process efficiency and the quality of recycled materials. Visitors can gain an in-depth look at the evolution of PET bottles through interactive installations.

On December 10, 2025, at the inauguration of the new educational displays, FENC’s President of Corporate Management, Humphrey Cheng, remarked: FENC is actively expanding its global rPET capacity, with footprints in Taiwan, Mainland China, Vietnam, Japan, the United States, the Philippines, and Malaysia, establishing itself as the world's largest supplier of food-grade rPET. Currently, rPET is widely used in food packaging, non-food packaging, hygiene materials, home textiles, sportswear, footwear, and automotive textiles. As FENC continues to expand the application fields of rPET, diverse green product applications are also displayed on-site to inspire visitors' imagination regarding PET bottle recycling. Anchored in circular‑economy capabilities, FENC places a strong, long‑term emphasis on environmental education. The displays feature a diverse array of green product applications that spark visitors’ imagination about the possibilities of recycling and remanufacturing PET bottles.

Since its opening in 2015, the Egret Academy has received nearly 13,094 visitors. The visitor groups range from students of various ages to the general public, including international guests from Hong Kong, Palau, South Korea, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Australia, New Zealand, the Marshall Islands, Sri Lanka, and Paraguay.

Wen Yuan Wu, Director of the Beitou Refuse Incineration Plant, said: “With the interactive displays provided by the FENC team—showcasing global rPET technologies and their diverse applications—visitors can engage hands-on to understand how recycled materials are widely used in food containers, athletic apparel, automotive airbags, and other new applications. We look forward to strengthening our partnership and, through education, empowering participants to practice recycling and reuse in everyday life, taking bold steps toward our carbon reduction goals.”

Through lively and engaging educational displays designs, FENC aims to share circular recycling technologies and diverse green products with domestic and international visitors. The goal is to trigger a broader recognition that "trash can become resources," encouraging people to contribute to waste reduction and energy conservation through changes in their daily behaviors.
