FENC Advances Decarbonization Goals Through Concrete Action

FENC is Invited to Speak at the “Taoyuan Dialogues with the World: Corporate Pathways to Net Zero” Forum

This year marks both the 10th anniversary of the Paris Agreement and the 30th anniversary of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP). Once again, the world is united in its focus on the shared goal of limiting global warming to within 1.5°C. On November 18, the Taoyuan City Government and CommonWealth Magazine co-hosted the “Taoyuan Dialogues with the World: Corporate Pathways to Net Zero” forum and certification ceremony, recognizing local enterprises for their climate leadership.

Far Eastern New Century (FENC) was commended for its outstanding decarbonization performance and awarded the “1.5°C Corporate Carbon Reduction Certificate,” presented by Taoyuan City Mayor Chang, San-Cheng. Executive Vice President Sha, Yi-Ming represented the company as a keynote speaker, delivering a presentation titled “Sustainability Opportunities Amid Corporate Carbon Risks.” He shared how the company leverages science-driven and innovative approaches to advance low-carbon transformation, highlighting Taiwan’s leadership in the global net-zero transition.

Strengthening the Net-Zero Vision with Three Major 50% Targets

Upholding its commitment to “Advances Decarbonization Goals Through Concrete Action,” FENC established new low-carbon transformation targets in 2024, pledging to achieve by 2030: reducing GHG emissions by 50%; incorporating 50% green raw materials; and including 50% green products in the product mix.
FENC’s core strategy centers on comprehensive low-carbon transformation across raw materials, manufacturing processes, and products. Through technological innovation, circular reuse, and supply-chain collaboration, the company aims to drive decarbonization across the entire industrial value chain and establish a green value ecosystem.

Industry-Leading Decarbonization Progress—Achieving Milestones Ahead of Schedule

FENC has long integrated carbon reduction into its core operations and has already achieved its 2025 short-term reduction target ahead of schedule. Demonstrating greater climate ambition, the company increased its 2030 mid-term reduction target from 40% to 50%.
FENC plans to invest over NT$15 billion by 2030 to expand renewable energy, upgrade energy-efficient equipment, and adopt low-carbon fuels, with an expected reduction of 1.65 million tCO₂e.
The company also leads the Ministry of Economic Affairs’ “1+N Low-Carbon Transformation Program,” working with ten partner and diffusion factories to optimize processes and energy usage. This initiative is expected to reduce emissions by 30,000 tCO₂e, accelerating low-carbon development across the supply chain.

Implementing Internal Carbon Pricing to Secure the Most Preferential Carbon Fee Rates

Since 2024, FENC has fully implemented an internal carbon pricing mechanism, integrating carbon costs into decision-making and investment reviews. Beyond strengthening incentives for emission reduction, this early deployment positions the company to secure the most preferential carbon fee rate of NT$50/tCO₂e, compared with the general rate of NT$300/tCO₂e.
This is expected to save the company hundreds of millions of NT dollars annually, demonstrating its ability to mitigate operational risks through strategic action.

Global Recognition Through Dual Achievements: CDP A-List and SBTi Validation

FENC’s polyester and textile business passed verification by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), becoming the first polyester company globally to obtain approval under the 1.5°C pathway, underscoring its commitment to internationally aligned decarbonization action.
In 2024, FENC was also named to the CDP Climate Change A-List, one of only 38 companies in Taiwan to receive this highest recognition. This achievement demonstrates the company’s industry-leading performance in carbon disclosure transparency, climate governance, and emissions reduction.

Cultivating a Company-Wide Sustainability Culture — From Corporate to Individual Action

In addition to corporate initiatives, FENC promotes employee engagement through programs such as the Carbon Savings Ledger and used-clothing recycling campaigns. Since their launch in 2024, these initiatives have collectively reduced over 170,000 kg of CO₂e, reflecting a company-wide culture of sustainability rooted in everyday action.

Leading the Industry Toward a Sustainable Future

With a dual focus on technological innovation and business model transformation, FENC continues to advance diverse decarbonization strategies, demonstrating concrete actions and firm commitment to the net-zero transition.
From corporate operations and supply-chain partnerships to international climate initiatives, FENC is fully implementing sustainability across all fronts.
