YTRM's innovative concrete wins ESG Sustainability Excellence Award, leading the way in low-carbon building
With global climate change looming and the carbon fee system about to be implemented, the carbon reduction transformation of the construction industry is now imperative. Ya Tung Ready Mixed Concrete (YTRM) recently released its latest low-carbon and carbon-fixed concrete technology achievements, pointing out that concrete is moving towards a new generation centered on "low carbon, high performance, and carbon fixation," becoming a key material for promoting net-zero buildings.

YTRM President Gin, Chongren stated that the construction industry is a major source of carbon emissions in Taiwan, and businesses must quickly master low-carbon materials and supply chain resilience to maintain competitiveness under the carbon fee policy. He emphasized that reducing carbon emissions in concrete is not only about inventory and reducing the carbon footprint of products, but also requires innovative materials, smart monitoring, and carbon sequestration technologies to truly implement sustainability in material manufacturing processes and construction sites.
YTRM low-carbon concrete technology focuses on three major directions.:
I. Ai-powered intelligent scheduling of low-carbon supply chains
The adoption of AI-powered intelligent scheduling can shorten transportation distances, reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions, while improving the stability of local supply chains, and has become an important strategy for the construction industry to achieve sustainability.
II. Digital Upgrade of High-Performance Materials and Processes
YTRM invests in the research and development of low-carbon materials such as hydration heat inhibitors, alternative cementitious materials, and recycled aggregates, and introduces sensing and monitoring technologies to make concrete "monitorable, verifiable, and traceable" throughout the entire process from manufacturing to pouring, thereby enhancing quality stability and construction durability.
III. Carbon sequestration technology becomes a breakthrough in carbon reduction.
The latest carbon capture and reuse (CCU) technology has become a significant milestone in reducing carbon emissions in concrete. YTRM captures CO₂ emitted from domestic pollution sources and recovers CO₂, injecting it into the concrete manufacturing process. This allows CO₂ to form stable carbonate crystals during hydration, effectively sealing carbon emissions and improving concrete density and long-term durability, achieving both low carbon emissions and high performance.
Academic and empirical studies have also confirmed the high potential of low-carbon and carbon sequestration materials.
Multiple studies and experiments have shown that low-carbon cement, carbon sequestration, and recycled materials have significant effects in reducing carbon footprint, suppressing heat of hydration, and improving durability. They also have seismic performance that meets seismic design specifications and can significantly reduce environmental impact throughout the building's life cycle, making them important tools for Taiwan to move towards carbon neutrality.
YTRM stated that carbon reduction is an urgent action that businesses must take. The company is building a complete low-carbon and carbon-fixing concrete technology system, including the standardization of carbon-fixing materials, a concrete performance database, AI quality monitoring, and traceability management, to make products more transparent, verifiable, and continuously optimized.
President Gin emphasized, "Low-carbon and carbon sequestration technologies will reshape the competitiveness of Taiwan's construction industry. We will continue to collaborate with industry, government, and academia to truly realize sustainable building from concept." With the maturation of carbon sequestration technologies and the establishment of standards, Taiwan is moving towards becoming an Asian green building demonstration base, and concrete will play a crucial role as an indispensable core material in the net-zero era.\
