TPKD R&D building awarded LEED Gold certification
On May 12, 2020, the TPKD R&D office building was awarded LEED Gold certification by the US Green Building Council, becoming the first R&D building in Tpark to obtain the LEED standard. (Photo Credit: FERD)

To ensure the entire Tpark project is developed under the principle of sustainability and low carbon emission, from location & transportation, sustainable site, storm water management, to water-saving landscape design, Tpark applied for LEED Campus Project and was approved in 2015. Hence, the TPKD project, which was completed earlier this year, also sticks to this vision and earned LEED Gold certification.
- Construction Waste Management: During the construction period, the TPKD project introduced a waste management plan, with a recovery rate of 75% and the use of recycled materials. 20% of the building materials come from local sources.
- Green Transportation: To save energy and reduce carbon emissions, we advocate the use of public transportation systems and low-pollution vehicles for commuting. The TPKD building has 110 parking spaces for bikes, far above the LEED standard of 59. Besides, 13 car charging stations have been set up.
- Sustainable Site: A stormwater management system has been implemented in Tpark to reduce the area of impermeable pavement.
- Water-saving Design: TPKD adopts a rainwater recycling mechanism for plant irrigation. The overall water-saving efficiency reaches 76.6%, and the replacement rate of running water is up to 100%.
- Energy-saving Design: TPKD project follows the exceptional calculation method (ASHRAE Standard 90.1) and the building can achieve energy efficiency of 23.24%
About LEED certification
LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is an internationally recognized green building certification system, which is a symbol of sustainability and leadership.
LEED is for all types and all building phases, including new construction (LEED-NC), interior design (LEED-CI), core & shell development (LEED-CS), etc.; TPKD building is a LEED-CS project. Projects pursuing LEED certification earn points for various green building strategies across several categories based on the number of points achieved. A project earns one of the four levels: Certified, Silver, Gold, and Platinum.
