U-Ming Selected for Business Weekly's "Top 100 Carbon Competitiveness" Ranking
U-Ming has been selected for Business Weekly's "Top 100 Carbon Competitiveness" ranking. Since 2022, Business Weekly and the Industry Climate Risk Research Team at National Taiwan University’s Risk Center have jointly held the "Top 100 Carbon Competitiveness" ranking to assess the carbon competitiveness of Taiwanese companies. Being selected for the "Top 100 Carbon Competitiveness" highlights U-Ming's ongoing efforts in addressing climate issues.
U-Ming is actively promoting the environmental transformation of its fleet, building a green and eco-friendly fleet. During regular drydocking, the hulls of existing vessels are repainted with the latest energy-efficient and environmentally friendly coatings, effectively reducing resistance and fuel consumption. The company also adopts economical cruising speeds to save energy and reduce emissions. U-Ming is the first Taiwanese shipowner to operate vessels powered by low-carbon fuels, with four liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel bulk carriers currently in operation.
On the other hand, U-Ming is presently undertaking feasibility studies regarding the installation of rotor sails, carbon capture system and the retrofitting of traditional oil fuel systems to methanol dual-fuel on its fleet.
In 2023, U-Ming aligned with the “International Maritime Organization (IMO)” and national carbon reduction targets, declaring its “2050 Net Zero Roadmap”. Also, U-Ming published its first “Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) Independent Report”, marking the first such report in Taiwan's shipping industry in 2024. The report, following TCFD guidelines, discloses U-Ming’s management and execution of four key areas: climate governance, strategy, risk management, and metrics and targets.
U-Ming will continue to invest in climate transition efforts, working towards achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
