FENC shines in 2024 Paris Summer Olympics
Taiwan’s textile industry shone in the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, spotlighting sports clothing and use of sustainable fabric, the Ministry of Economic Affairs said Aug. 10.
The country’s industrial prowess was on display in Team Taiwan’s uniforms, the MOEA said, adding that outfits were designed by Justin Chou with local cultural elements input by other domestic artists and designers.
According to the MOEA, the suit and polo shirt fabric was provided by New Taipei City-based New Wide Enterprise Co., Ltd. in cooperation with Taipei-headquartered Far Eastern New Century Co. New Wide Enterprise used an innovative technology to catch carbon dioxide emitted by recycling factories and then polymerized the gas into low-carbon and environmentally friendly polyester fibers. It added that fabrics made by this process are ultraviolet-resistant, moisture absorbing and quick drying. (Photo Credit / Taipei Fashion Week // Facebook)
The MOEA provides professional technology guidance, subsidies and resources to help low-carbon and smart transformation, adding that it has assisted 532 textile and footwear enterprises so far. The ministry will continue to strengthen cross-border cooperation and bring more competitive sustainable products to the global stage while achieving the country’s goal of net-zero emissions by 2050, the ministry said.
