Empowering Generation Z: AEUST Drives Interdisciplinary AI Literacy and Practical Learning Through Industry Alignment
As Generation Z fully enters higher education, their learning habits and career perspectives reflect their identity as digital natives. Gravitating toward online platforms, bite-sized videos, and digital resources, Gen Z students favor flexible, bite-sized learning that offers immediate feedback, purpose, and interdisciplinary integration. Rather than seeking a single, static career path, they lean toward multi-hyphenate careers, entrepreneurship, and cross-domain development. (Photo Credit: AEUST)

Tailoring Digital Curricula to Gen Z Strengths and Industry Demand
To bridge the gap between academia and industry, Asia Eastern University of Science and Technology (AEUST) has adopted an "industry-defined, academia-solved" strategy, focusing on three signature sectors: Information and Communications Technology (ICT), healthcare, and textiles. Recognizing students' preference for digital tools, AEUST actively promotes digital learning materials that allow flexible study beyond traditional classrooms. (Photo Credit: AEUST)
AEUST executes a three-pronged strategy combining AI collaboration, professional certification, and institutionalized internships:
-
AI Literacy: The university offers micro-credit courses covering AI and smart applications every academic year, teaching students to ask precise prompts and critically evaluate AI outputs.
-
Professional Certifications: Recognizing that high-value certifications bolster employability, AEUST hosts 16 certification testing sites and 11 national exam venues. Each year, over 1,200 professional certificates are awarded alongside more than NT$1 million in incentives, maintaining a certification rate of over 30%.
-
Institutionalized Internships: Over the past three years, internship participation exceeded 3,700 student placements, accumulating over 2.45 million total hours, with employer satisfaction rates surpassing 80%.

Driving Applied Innovation: From Competitions to Market Realization
To satisfy Gen Z's desire for real-world impact and immediate feedback, AEUST integrates interdisciplinary curricula across all departments and fosters innovation and entrepreneurship. By bringing real-world industry challenges into the classroom through industry-academia partnerships and co-teaching with corporate mentors, the university narrows the skills gap prior to graduation. Supported by university funding, professors and students collaborate as campus inventors. In the 2024 academic year alone, AEUST executed 65 industry-academia collaboration projects, securing an average of over 40 certified patents annually and generating over NT$1 million in technology transfer revenue. Research teams earn more than 60 international invention awards each year. Notable achievements include AI vascular reading and medical speech recognition systems developed in partnership with Far Eastern Memorial Hospital—demonstrating how campus research successfully transitions into practical, real-world healthcare solutions.

Maximizing Group Synergy: A Micro-Societal Ecosystem for Seamless Employment

College of Electrical and Communication Engineering collaborates with Far EasTone Telecommunications on 5G and AIoT.
-
College of Engineering partners with Asia Cement Corporation on materials R&D.
-
College of Healthcare and Management works with Far Eastern Memorial Hospital on smart healthcare applications.
To incentivize participation, AEUST established the "Far Eastern Practical Micro-Program" alongside specialized internship schemes (such as Talent Reserve Program and Summer Industry Internships). Over the past three years, the group retention rate for interns reached approximately 31%, realizing the goal of "interning while studying, employment upon graduation." Furthermore, recent graduates achieved an average employment rate of 90.19% with an average employer satisfaction rate of 93.9%. Students in the university’s "Top Talent Program" earn average starting salaries 19% higher than Taiwan’s national baseline for first-time job seekers.
Vision for the Future: Transforming Higher Education into a Talent Accelerator
Looking ahead, AEUST emphasizes that Taiwan’s greatest need is for interdisciplinary integrators equipped with digital literacy, innovative thinking, and complex problem-solving abilities. AEUST aims to serve as a co-creation hub for industrial upgrading, cultivating talent grounded in the 4Cs: Communication, Collaboration, Creativity, and Care—serving as a solid foundation for Far Eastern Group and Taiwanese industry as a whole.
