U-Ming Celebrates World Oceans Day and Invites Employees to Steer a Low-Carbon Future

In response to World Oceans Day on June 8, U- Ming 's Sustainability Promotion Working Group organized a "Low-Carbon Shipping Simulation" activity from June 5 to 12, 2026. The activity invited employees to participate in a shipping decision-making simulation game to better understand how shipping activities are affected by climate change, the marine environment, and regulatory policies. Employees who completed the game were entered into a lucky draw for a chance to win prizes. (Photo Credit: U-Ming Official Website)

"Low-Carbon Shipping" served as the central theme of the activity. Participants assumed the role of vessel operation decision-makers and were challenged to manage shipping operations under budgetary and carbon emission constraints. Throughout the simulation, they encountered climate- and environment-related scenarios that may arise during actual voyages, such as extreme weather events and fuel requirements within Emission Control Areas (ECAs). Participants were required to balance cost-effectiveness and environmental impacts when making operational decisions, encouraging them to explore potential pathways toward sustainable shipping. In addition, participants learned the basic concepts and calculation methods of emission factors and carbon emissions through the simulation, helping them better understand the relationship between vessel operations and greenhouse gas emissions. (Photo Credit: U-Ming Official Website)
