FMTC Advances Logistics Through Low-Carbon and Digital Transformation
Fu-Ming Transport Corporation (FMTC) is reshaping Taiwan’s logistics sector with a dual focus on technological innovation and sustainability. From intelligent fleet management to green operations, the company is driving efficiency while reducing its environmental footprint. (Photo Credit: FMTC)
Smart Fleet Control
At FMTC’s new operations control center in Taichung, a wall-sized display tracks GPS data, tire conditions, and driver behavior for hundreds of vehicles. When a truck strays off course, an alert is triggered, allowing administrators to immediately contact the driver.
The system integrates GPS, in-vehicle recorders, and collision-prevention technologies to monitor both vehicles and drivers in real time. As Senior Manager Ho Jie-xin notes, even signs of drowsiness—such as repeated yawning or closed eyes—can prompt instant alerts. The company plans to extend these monitoring centers across its network, culminating in a centralized headquarters command hub.
This digital oversight enhances safety while improving cost control. Data on tire wear, fuel consumption, and driving behavior help FMTC identify inefficiencies, strengthen training, and incentivize drivers to adopt safer, more economical practices. (Photo Credit: FMTC)
Green Fleet Development
FMTC is also upgrading its fleet to meet environmental standards. Vehicles compliant with Phase VI emissions rules have cut carbon output and improved fuel efficiency by 12%. The company is preparing to introduce electric heavy-duty trailers while optimizing trailer design with lightweight materials and aluminum wheels.
Internally, FMTC maintains its own service facility, trains technicians in-house, and implements performance-based payment method to ensure repair quality and efficiency. Eco-certified detergents are used for cleaning, and all waste materials are recycled through licensed channels.
Operational improvements extend to unloading methods. By installing ground-mounted air compressors, FMTC enables cement and ready-mix trucks to unload without idling, cutting noise and emissions. For powdered PTA cargo, a tilting tanker system has replaced nitrogen-pressurized unloading, reducing costs, energy use, and turnaround time. Auxiliary in-cab air conditioning systems further allow drivers to rest without running engines.
To reinforce sustainability, FMTC has formed an ESG task force. Administrative processes have shifted to digital approvals, reducing paper use. Maintenance alerts are pushed in real time to drivers and logistics teams, while planned integration with mobile systems will enable fully digital task assignments, inspections, and earnings records. New Headquarters at Taipei Port for Advancing Logistics
Near the busy Taipei Port, FMTC’s new headquarters is nearing completion, with operations scheduled to begin in October. The facility will combine office space, warehousing, container yards, cold storage, maintenance areas, and parking. Solar panels have been installed in partnership with FEG affiliates Prime Ecopower and Far Eastern Construction, with plans for green building certification. EV charging stations will also be available for company and employee use.
The new base is designed to streamline logistics by linking warehousing directly with container transport. Instead of storing finished goods at client sites, FMTC can move products directly into containers, bypassing traditional bottlenecks. With its own container yard, the company can manage traffic by shifting transport between peak and off-peak hours, easing port congestion and cutting emissions.
The same model applies to inbound cargo, allowing goods to be stored and transported in containers without repeated handling. By diversifying services, FMTC strengthens its resilience against market fluctuations.
As economic conditions improve, FMTC is preparing to launch this next phase of growth. With advanced technology and sustainable practices, the company aims to deliver safer, more efficient logistics, reduce client costs, and contribute to Taiwan’s economic development—all while laying the foundation for long-term growth.
