FENC Awarded 1.5°C Climate Alignment Badge, Reinforces Climate Leadership

FENC Awarded 1.5°C Climate Alignment Badge, Reinforces Climate Leadership

Far Eastern New Century (FENC) has once again been recognized for its leadership in sustainability and decarbonization. On June 27, the company was awarded the 1.5°C Climate Alignment Badge and rated as an “Outstanding Performer” in the latest TRIPs (Temperature Reduction Indicator for Enterprises) evaluation, jointly developed by CommonWealth Magazine and Tunghai University. This distinction affirms that FENC’s net-zero commitments and climate actions are aligned with the Paris Agreement’s 1.5°C warming limit, establishing the company as a benchmark for industrial climate governance.

Now in its third year, the TRIPs program has grown from evaluating fewer than 100 companies in its first year to covering 1,200 organizations across 72 industries. FENC stood out for its comprehensive decarbonization strategy, well-defined interim targets, and tangible emissions reduction results—earning it the prestigious 1.5°C Badge and reinforcing its global leadership in climate action. Furthermore, FENC’s polyester business and textile business are approved of SBTi targets under the 1.5°C pathway, with the first approval in the polyester industry.

As the world’s only manufacturer integrating polyester production from raw materials to end-product recycling, FENC embeds carbon reduction into the core of its operations. In 2022, the company set its first company-wide carbon reduction goal—to cut emissions by 25% by 2025 (using 2020 as the base year)—and achieved this ahead of schedule in 2023. Demonstrating even greater ambition, FENC raised its 2025 target to a 30% reduction. By 2024, it had already achieved a 34% reduction, once again surpassing its goal ahead of time.

In response to Taiwan's upcoming carbon fee policy, FENC is actively pursuing the preferential rate of NT$50 per ton—significantly lower than the standard rate of NT$300—which could save the company hundreds of millions of NT dollars annually, highlighting the financial advantage of its carbon reduction success.

FENC also actively participates in global climate dialogues. In 2024, the company presented twice at COP29’s Blue Zone, sharing its circular economy and decarbonization efforts. In the latest CDP evaluation, FENC earned an A List rating for climate change—the highest possible score—cementing its place among the world’s leading sustainable corporations.
