ACC’s Hualien Storage and Transportation Station Wins Golden Anchor Award for Creating a Low-Pollution Port Operating Environment

ACC’s Hualien Storage and Transportation Station Wins Golden Anchor Award for Creating a Low-Pollution Port Operating Environment

Asia Cement Corporation (ACC) has long been dedicated to pollution prevention and equipment upgrades at its Hualien Storage and Transportation Station. These efforts have been formally recognized by the Hualien Port Branch of the Port of Taiwan Authority, Ministry of Transportation and Communications. Following a rigorous evaluation of port construction investment and environmental sustainability, Asia Cement was honored with the "Golden Anchor Award for Environmental Contribution," highlighting the company’s concrete achievements in energy saving, carbon reduction, and the improvement of port environmental quality.

Systematic Upgrades and Emission Reductions

In recent years, Asia Cement has implemented systematic improvements at the source of its storage and transportation operations. Key initiatives include:

Dust Control: The installation of two fixed, enclosed concrete silos, along with advanced ship loaders and dust recovery units, effectively minimizing dust dispersion during loading and unloading.
Shore Power Infrastructure: The expansion of full-scale shore power facilities for vessels (Asia No. 3 through Asia No. 9). By utilizing shore-based electricity instead of onboard fuel-powered generators, the company has significantly reduced both energy consumption and carbon emissions.
Optimizing the Operating Environment

To further enhance the port area, Asia Cement has implemented several localized environmental measures:

Dust Suppression: Installation of dust-proof netting around work zones, upgrades to unloading hopper equipment, and the deployment of rented street sweepers and water trucks to suppress ambient dust.
Resource Circularity: Repurposing decommissioned conveyor belts to pave vehicle paths and using them to construct baffles and netting bases, achieving both dust suppression and resource recycling.
Noise and Air Quality Management: Improvements to dust collector acoustic insulation to reduce low-frequency noise. The company also coordinates with environmental authorities for perimeter particulate monitoring and special inspections, maintaining a record of zero significant violations.
A Vision for Sustainable Port Value

Chung Chen-ho, Assistant Vice President of Asia Cement’s Sales Department, noted that the company maintains a strong, long-term partnership with the port authorities. Beyond improving efficiency and lowering emissions, Asia Cement has proactively assisted with port maintenance, such as installing steel plates to repair road surfaces, ensuring driving safety, and further reducing dust.

"We will continue to deepen our investment in energy conservation, carbon reduction, and pollution prevention," said Mr. Chung. "Our goal is to work hand-in-hand with port authorities to create a safer, more efficient, and eco-friendly operating environment, ultimately enhancing the overall competitiveness and sustainable value of the port."
