ACC Leads the Way with Comprehensive Carbon Footprint Verification
Asia Cement Corporation (ACC) announced that all of its cement products have obtained carbon footprint verification, making it the first cement company in Taiwan to achieve complete carbon footprint verification across its entire product range. Notably, ACC’s low-carbon cement has set a new record domestically for the lowest carbon footprint among cement products, demonstrating its leading position in low-carbon technology and green manufacturing process.
“ACC is committed to building a comprehensive and transparent carbon footprint record for our cement products,” said Chang Chih-Peng, Vice President and Chief Plant Manager of Asia Cement. “This not only addresses the market’s demand for high-quality and low-carbon building materials but also enables our customers to clearly understand carbon footprint data, thereby enhancing the effectiveness in carbon reduction management. This marks a significant step in ACC’s low-carbon transformation and establishes a more credible carbon management model for the cement industry.”
ACC pointed out that while traditional carbon footprint verification for cement products typically focuses on the manufacturing process within the plant, ACC has proactively extended its scope to include transportation. This covers the entire supply chain from manufacturing plants to various cement terminals, ensuring data integrity and transparency to meet the needs of customers for cement carbon footprint information. Compared to traditional carbon footprint verification, this process is more complex and time-consuming. To address this, ACC has invested significant resources in strengthening its data collection, analysis, and verification mechanisms, ensuring that all data meets international standards. This rigorous approach ensures data reliability and sets a new benchmark for transparent carbon reduction management in the cement industry.
Through years of research and development in technology, quality optimization, and customer communication, ACC has successfully launched cement products with the lowest carbon footprint in Taiwan. Among these, bulk masonry cement has a carbon footprint of 753 kg CO2e/ton, while bagged masonry cement (40kg) has a carbon footprint of only 30 kg CO2e/bag. These statistics demonstrate ACC’s outstanding achievements in low-carbon technology innovation and process optimization. The benefits of carbon reduction have expanded from the production end to all aspects of the supply chain, further reducing the environmental impact of the overall building materials industry.
ACC’s efforts in carbon reduction and environmental management have also gained international recognition. Since 2022, ACC has received an A- rating, equivalent to Leadership level, in the CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project) for three consecutive years, the best performance among cement companies domestically. Particularly in water resource management, ACC has actively promoted water conservation measures and water recycling projects and has successfully obtained ISO 46001 certification on the water efficiency management system, resulting in an upgrade to an A- (Leadership level) rating in the 2024 CDP water security questionnaire. ACC emphasizes its commitment to fulfilling corporate responsibility through concrete actions, driving the cement industry towards low-carbon innovation, and providing the building materials industry with cleaner and more resilient sustainable solutions.
