FET to up stake in Taiwan's top crypto platform

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Mobile provider Far EasTone said it will increase investment in Taiwan’s largest cryptocurrency platform on Tuesday, with plans to offer customers bitcoin promotions and use blockchain technology to improve security.

Far EasTone held a press conference to announce increased cooperation with MaiCoin Group, per CNA. Far EasTone General Manager Chin Chi (井琪) said the company plans to raise its investment in MaiCoin, which is currently in the single digits.

Far EasTone said it is planning programs to offer customers cryptocurrency for membership points, cryptocurrency payments, and other blockchain-related applications. It also said it will employ blockchain technology to improve the security of mobile payments and personal data, and to ensure compliance.

MaiCoin Founder and CEO Liu Shih-wei (劉世偉) said the investment from Far EasTone will help the company expand its overseas user base. He also said the two companies will cooperate and share technology to create products.

Liu noted that MaiCoin has been preparing an IPO for the past two years and is optimistic about the future of Taiwan’s capital market. He said the timing will depend on the Financial Regulatory Commission.
