The Founder established the business in the midst of war, this makes FEG has the DNA to deal with the crisis. The fire in Banqiao textile plant in 1958, the first energy crisis in 1973, and the random fire burned to the headquarters building at Baoqing, Taipei in 1991...etc. These crises solidified relationship among employees and heightened the attention to crisis management. FEG has always risen to walk through the crises valley with progressively steadier steps toward higher peaks.
The Founder accurately estimated the purchasing power of Taiwan consumers by converting 4 "Skyscraper" knitwear retail stores in Taipei into a six-story building, establishing the first FEDS. Baoqing store was opened in 1972, it was the first one in Taiwan to include a supermarket and many other unique designs at the time. Taiwan had resigned its seat in the UNs at the same period, the opening of the Baoqing store was a major reassurance to calm the restless heart of Taiwan residents.
In the 1960s, Founder Y.Z. Hsu realized the importance of the cement business in urbanlization of a country. He then founded ACC, supplying fundamental materials for all major constructions in Taiwan, to be instrumental in Taiwan's economic development. Many of Taiwan's landmarks and major constructions were grounded in ACC's effort, including the Grand Hotel, Taiwan's ten major construction projects, Taiwan High Speed Rail, Taipei and Kaohsiung Rapid Transit Systems...etc.
Far Eastern's textile factory moved from Shanghai to Banqiao after the Government retreated to Taiwan in 1949. The Company provided warmth with basic needs such as the manufacturing of the "Skyscraper" brand of knitwear. Later, in touch with Taiwan's economic pulse and government initiatives, the Company redirected its business accordingly, from producing petrochemicals and fibers to spinning, weaving, dyeing, and retail, it has created a complete supply chain.
