American company Union Carbide, Japanese company Mitsui, and Oriental Union Chemical Corporation banded together to launch the company A&O, producing ethylene glycol (EG) in Canada.
OUCC received approval for and began trading on the Taiwan Stock Exchange.
A joint investment was made with LAir Liquide International of France to establish Air Liquide Far Eastern Ltd. to produce nitrogen and other industrial gases. It became one of the three largest gas suppliers in Taiwan.
