On November 16, Far Eastern Group Chairman Douglas Hsu was awarded the "Corporate Sustainability Lifetime Achievement Award" at the awards ceremony for "Global Corporate Sustainability Awards (GCSA)" and "Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards (TCSA)". This is the highest individual recognition given by the organizers after winning the TCSA "Corporate Sustainable Outstanding Person Award" in 2018 and the GCSA "World Outstanding Person Award" in 2019 to commend Douglas Hsu for his efforts in promoting the corporate sustainable projects, and led the business strategy of the FEG to include all aspects of ESG to create a sustainable model value. In addition, FEG won 38 awards this year, ranking first in the whole Taiwan Group for the sixth consecutive year.

Under the leadership of Douglas Hsu, FEG's business spans ten major industries, including polyester, cement, energy, department stores, telecommunications, finance, transportation, hotels, construction and public welfare. It is one of the most diversified business groups in Taiwan, and its nine listed companies all stand at leading positions in the industry. In 2021, the Group's revenue has exceed NTD 700 billion, and its employees at home and abroad reached 63,000. Its operating bases span over two sides of the Taiwan Straits, the United States, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Vietnam, and other Southeast Asian countries, making it one of the top five non-financial business groups in Taiwan.

Douglas Hsu said that the FEG has been deeply rooted in Taiwan for more than 70 years, and all the major companies are leading businesses in each industry. In addition to continuing to pursue growth, we must also shoulder the responsibility and mission of sustainability for the enterprise, expand the sustainable influence to partners, assist the transformation of the overall industrial chain, and jointly create sustainable value for the society.

In this award ceremony, many businesses under the FEG were recognized, including: Far Eastern New Century Corporation (FENC) won the highest honor of "Taiwan's Top Ten Sustainable Model Businesses" for the third consecutive year, Asia Cement Corporation (ACC), Far Eastern Department Stores (FEDS), Far EasTone Telecommunications (FET), FE SOGO Department stores (FE SOGO), Everest Textile (Everest) and Far Eastern Memorial Hospital are also listed in the "Taiwan's Top 100 Sustainable Model Businesses". FEG has long been deeply involved in recycled economy and environmental sustainability. FENC and international well-known brands have joined hands to create waste gas recycling and reproduction technology. In this year's World Cup, we will see several national teams wearing jerseys made of marine recycled yarn from FENC which is building up an all-round recycling technology of "land, sea and air". ACC actively promotes the comprehensive ecological environment education by combining plant area, mining area and ecological park, and actively responds to the initiative of SBTi to develop low-carbon cement products and build a low-carbon industrial chain. In the past five years, even under the growth of turnover, FEDS had a gradual decline in electricity consumption which has decreased by 11% per NTD 1 turnover. FEDS also promoted the green electricity plan to create a green sustainable department store. Everest actively invested in ecological greening projects and promoted projects to turn waste to resources. Oriental Union Chemical Corporation strives to recycle carbon dioxide and develop environment-friendly special chemicals. U-Ming Marine Transport established an energy-saving fleet and pursues green transportation.

FEG is committed to public welfare activities, attaches importance to talent development, and gives the society the greatest support during the pandemics. For example, FE SOGO was the first department store to provide employees with vaccine benefits, and created zero contact and reassurance stores to protect stakeholders. Far Eastern Memorial Hospital received the most severe patients in Taiwan. It promoted fast screening station, vaccine station, remote outpatient service, centralized examination station and other businesses, and its anti-pandemic achievements were highly recognized. In addition, FET promoted "Big Data+AI+IoT" to actively developing scientific and technological talents, and developed innovative applications such as 5G long-distance diagnosis and treatment, smart city, and smart transportation, etc. Far Eastern International Bank has also constructed a talent development plan to improve the effectiveness of human capital.
