As a good corporate citizen, starting from the 1970ˇ¦s the Group established Far Eastern Memorial Foundation and Far Eastern Medical Foundation to sponsor numerous artistic and cultural activities, and fund medical research and medical aids. Established in 1981, the Far Eastern Memorial Hospital is the largest hospital in the Panchiao. The Hospital entered into a strategic alliance with NationalTaiwanUniversityHospital in April 1999, acquired the most advanced precision medical equipments, and went through expansion of new rooms. With warm, caring and highly professional medical and nursing team, the Hospital provides the public with high-standard medical care and its Department of Cardiovascular Surgery was granted the 2004 "National Biotechnology and Medical Care Quality Award."
To commemorate the Far Eastern Group's late founder, "Y.Z. Hsu Memorial Foundation" was established in 2001. This was the first non-profit organization in Taiwan to apply to the National Science Council for an establishment license. The foundation has been sponsoring "Y.Z. Hsu Technological Dissertation Award," "Y.Z. Hsu Technology Lectureships," and "Y.Z. Hsu Outstanding Professor Award." Aimed to promote science and technology, this Foundation is doing its best to contribute to assisting the development of nanotechnology, telecommunications, and biotechnology in Taiwan.
To cultivate the human resources needed for Taiwanˇ¦s economic developments, the Far Eastern Group has been active in the field of higher education. It established the Oriental Institute of Technology in 1969 and Yuan Ze Institute of Technology in 1989. These two schools have trained countless industrial technology specialists for the nation. Yuan Ze Institute of Technology was upgraded and renamed as Yuan Ze University in 1997. Given its modern teaching facilities, brilliant teaching faculty, and outstanding academic performance, Yuan Ze was granted the 2003 ˇ§National Quality Awardˇ¨, the first of its kind ever awarded to local university. Furthermore, Oriental Institute of Technology was upgraded to college status in 2000 and they both aim to become Asia's finest educational institutions. |
